Description

Life Drawing: The Artist’s Gym

Getting started in life drawing with Beatriz Seijo is the best way to return to the origins and train your eyes professionally. In a world saturated with digital images and filters, the act of observing reality without intermediaries is the most honest and formative exercise that exists for an artist. In this on-site course, you will learn to capture the essence of objects and the living model under the direct supervision of an expert in plastic arts.

Why is life drawing with Beatriz Seijo vital?

Drawing from direct observation offers technical challenges that a photograph can never replicate. Practicing life drawing by life Beatriz Seijo will allow you to develop critical skills that are impossible to acquire by copying a flat image:

  • Depth and Volume Perception: You will understand actual volume and how air and distance affect shapes in three-dimensional space.

  • Capturing the gesture and the essence: You will learn to synthesize the movement and intention of a pose in a few master strokes, developing great mental agility.

  • The domain of physical light: You will see how light physically travels over objects, creating its own and projected shadows that only human vision accurately captures.

Methodology applied in life drawing with Beatriz Seijo

The pedagogical approach of this workshop is not limited to the slavish copying of what we see, but to the understanding of what happens in front of us. Beatriz Seijo proposes a learning system based on constant correction on the easel. This guarantees that the student does not carry technical vices and learns to “correct himself” through constant visual comparison between the model and the paper.

Contents of the life drawing workshop with Beatriz Seijo

Under the methodology of our academy, we will explore the fundamental pillars so that your line gains security and realism:

  • Blocking-in and proportion: How to structure the drawing using axes and measurements so that it is solid and balanced.

  • The expressive line and value: Differentiate between the contour line and the value line to give intention and hierarchy to the drawing.

  • Live chiaroscuro: Tonal grading to create depth and atmosphere without relying on external references or screens.

  • Spatial composition: You will learn to place the subject in the paper format so that the work has a professional visual balance.

Registration in our monthly disciplines ( Ceramics, Painting and Kids’ Creativity ) implies acceptance of these conditions, designed to guarantee the pedagogical quality and sustainability of our groups.

1. Enrolment and seat reservation

  • Registration and erolment: To guarantee your seat, it is required to pay the registration fee (a one-off payment of €50.00) and the first monthly instalment for the chosen course in advance.

  • Continuity: You will not be required to pay the enrolment fee again as long as you retain your place without interruption. In the event of voluntary withdrawal, any future re-enrolment will be subject to payment of the current enrolment fee.

  • Flexible Enrollment: If you join a group after the course has already started, you will be charged the registration fee and a pro-rata share of the remaining monthly fee, or the full monthly fee if you join at the start of the monthly period.

  • Cycle Renewal: Students who complete the school year and wish to continue in the next cycle will be exempt from paying enrolment fees.

  • Mobility: You can request a change of group or discipline during the year at no additional cost, as long as there are vacancies.

  • Priority Enrollment: At the end of the school year, we open a priority booking period for the following academic year. To confirm your seat, you will be required to pay the first monthly fee for the new course in advance.

2. Monthly Payments and Commitment to Attendance

  • Guaranteed Place: Monthly payments must be paid in full within the first 5 days of each month. As your place is reserved exclusively for you, the fee must be paid regardless of any occasional absences.

  • Management of Non-Payments: Failure to pay the monthly fee by the specified deadline will result in the automatic loss of your place and your removal from the workshop.

3. Cancellation and Unsubscription Policy

  • Early Cancellation: If you decide not to start the course after booking, you may request a Workshop Voucher for the amount of the monthly fee paid, provided you give at least 7 calendar days’ notice. The registration fee is non-refundable.

  • Voluntary Cancellation: To formalise a permanent cancellation, you must notify us before the 20th of the current month. Cancellations notified on or after the 21st will take effect the following month, meaning the full monthly fee for that month must be paid.

4. Organizational and Coexistence Commitments

  • Group Viability: The running of workshops is subject to a minimum number of participants. If this minimum is not reached, the school will refund 100% of the fees paid (enrolment fee and course fee).

  • Relocation due to Cancellation: If an existing group falls below the minimum number of students required for it to continue, students will be offered a seat on alternative timetables. If this is not possible or the student is not interested, a technical cancellation will be made without penalty and all charges will be stopped.

  • Right of Admission: To maintain a creative, safe and respectful working environment, the management reserves the right of admission. Any behaviour that seriously disrupts the harmony of the group will result in immediate expulsion without entitlement to a refund.

1. I have never painted or drawn, can I start from scratch?

Absolutely yes! We have a specific program designed for people who have never picked up a brush or pencil. Learning correctly from the base is the best way to advance quickly and avoid technical vices. You don’t need experience, just the desire to start.

The only way not to advance in painting is not to decide to take the first brush stroke.

2. I have painted on my own, how do I know what my level is?

In the workshop we do not work with watertight levels. The teacher observes your technique and knowledge from day one and proposes a learning process designed exclusively for you. We accompany you from wherever you are so that you continue to evolve at your own pace.

3. What materials do I have to bring to class?

The teachers will tell you what specific materials you need depending on the technique you want to develop. But don’t worry: you’ll start little by little. You will be surprised how simple the basic equipment is to start your training. These materials are not included in the tuition and/or monthly fees.

4. Can I buy the materials in the workshop?

Yes, we offer “Materials Packages” specific for the painting course. The advantage is that you save time and are sure that they are the correct and quality materials, avoiding the confusion generated by the wide variety of brands on the market. Of course, you also have the freedom to buy them wherever you prefer.

5. Can I leave my materials in the studio?

Yes. Most students prefer to leave their material in the workshop so as not to carry it with them and, above all, to avoid forgetting it at home on the day of class.

6. Is healthy paint used in the workshop?

For us, your health comes first. We select paints that have the ACMI certification (AP Seal). This means that they are toxicologically evaluated products that do not release harmful substances for you or the environment. Nurture your art with safe materials.

7. Can I join if the month has already started?

Of course. Any time of the year is perfect to start. If you join after the first class of the month, the fee will be adjusted proportionally to the number of sessions you attend in that starting month.

8. Do you do activities outside the studio?

As part of our annual activity, we usually schedule visits to museums or exhibitions. We come with our notebooks to generate dialogue about the works and enjoy the artistic experience in community.
